Understanding How Credits are Earned
A credit is earned everytime a student passes a course. In high school, your status (freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior) is based on the amount of credits you earn, see chart below:
# Credits Status
<6 Freshman
6 Sophomore
13 Junior
20 Senior
Generally speaking, students have the opportunity to take 8 courses in one year (for a total of 8 credits). We operate on a semester basis, Fall and Spring. Students take 4 courses in the Fall and 4 courses in the Spring. If you are in danger of failing a course it's extremely important that contact be made with the teacher who teaches that course and/or the school counselor. Early intervention is the key to helping those who are struggling in a course.
